Outdoor Bonsai — Pyracantha sp. — Firethorn on Rock — Twin Trunk Penjing — 10+ Years

The crown jewel of the collection — this breathtaking Pyracantha sp. (Firethorn) has been growing for 10+ years and has been in dedicated bonsai training since 2022. At 40 cm, this is a commanding twin-trunk rock planting with a fully developed, dramatic composition: two expressive trunks rise from a rugged volcanic rock base, their roots gripping and cascading over the stone in a spectacular display of raw natural energy.

Come autumn, this tree ignites — clusters of vivid red and orange berries weigh down the branches in a spectacular seasonal display that stops people in their tracks. Pyracantha is one of the most rewarding bonsai species for four-season interest: spring flowers, summer foliage, autumn berries, and elegant winter silhouette.

The pot is a one-of-a-kind handmade NZ ceramic — a wide, low oval form with a stunning blue and gold drip glaze, crafted by a local NZ host potter. This is not a production pot — it is a piece of art in its own right, and it elevates this composition to gallery level.
