Outdoor Bonsai — Escallonia sp. — Clip and Grow Style — 5+ Years

A lush and vigorous Penjing creation — this Escallonia sp. has been growing for 5+ years and has been in active clip-and-grow bonsai training since 2024. At 20 cm, it presents a dense, well-ramified canopy with the glossy small leaves characteristic of the species. The upright trunk has genuine taper and movement, giving the tree a mature, established look beyond its years.

Escallonia is an underused but highly rewarding bonsai subject — robust, evergreen, and responsive to clip-and-grow technique. This tree is a rare find. Planted in a handmade NZ ceramic pot by Jan — a wide, low oval form with a beautiful white marbled glaze. Elegant and understated.
