A commanding and beautifully crafted piece of Japanese export porcelain, this tall cobalt blue vase stands 27.5cm and features an octagonal base with a distinctive gold seal maker's mark — the hallmark of a quality manufacturer. The deep, lustrous cobalt blue ground provides a dramatic stage for one of the most dynamic and prestigious compositions in the collection.
A magnificent kiji (golden pheasant) takes centre stage — rendered in vivid gold, orange-red and brown with a sweeping long tail — accompanied by a graceful white egret or crane below in crisp white enamel. Together they are framed by blooming botan (peony) and kiku (chrysanthemum) flowers in soft pink, white and gold. The composition is full of movement and life, wrapping elegantly around the cylindrical body.
Displayed on a rustic timber slab, this vase photographs beautifully and would make a stunning centrepiece in any interior or curated collection.
